Passport Renewal & Replacement

For Lebanese nationals residing in Nigeria

Lebanon exclusively issues biometric passports. The old dark-blue 2003-type electronic passport is no longer renewed — holders must obtain a biometric passport. Applications submitted at the consulate are sent to the Directorate General of General Security (DGSG) in Beirut for processing.

Temporary extension: Lebanese citizens aged 16–59 holding a machine-readable passport (RL prefix, navy blue cover) may obtain a one-year ($60) or two-year ($120) validity extension by signing an affidavit in person. This is a one-time exception only — the holder must obtain a full biometric passport on their next visit to Lebanon.
Documents required — adult renewal
Current passport (original) and two photocopies
Valid Lebanese ID card and two copies, or Ikhraj Kayd (individual) issued within the last 10 years with photo ID
Two recent biometric passport photos (4.3 × 3.5 cm, white background, full face)
Proof of residency in Nigeria (two copies)
Completed passport application form
Documents required — newborn passport
Completed Lebanese passport application form

Police report from Nigerian authorities documenting the loss
Notarised letter from the applicant explaining the circumstances

You must have a passport with no Israeli stamps, health insurance with minimum €30,000 coverage, proof of accommodation, and a non-refundable return ticket. Registering births, marriages, divorces, and deaths in the Lebanese civil records

All vital status events — births, marriages, divorces, and deaths — that occur outside Lebanon must be registered at the nearest Lebanese mission. English documents do not require translation into Arabic, except for divorce decrees.

To finalise divorce registration, a power of attorney must be given to a lawyer or representative in Lebanon.

Documents & Certificates

Ikhraj Kayd, good conduct, document legalisation, and more

Ikhraj Kayd — Civil Status Extract (إخراج قيد)

The Ikhraj Kayd is Lebanon's civil registry extract and is required for almost all consular services. The individual extract (إخراج قيد فردي) covers one person; the family extract (إخراج قيد عائلي) covers the entire registered family unit. Processing takes up to 3 months as requests are sent to Beirut.

Copy of existing Ikhraj Kayd or Lebanese ID card
Copy of Lebanese passport (if available)
Nigerian address and phone number

Good Conduct / Criminal Record Certificate (سجل عدلي)

Commonly required for residency applications, employment in Lebanon, or legal proceedings. The consulate facilitates the request to Lebanon's judicial authorities.

Lebanese ID or family/individual Ikhraj Kayd (Lebanese citizens)
Current passport (non-Lebanese applicants)

Free of charge. Allow several months for processing.

Document Legalisation

Lebanon is not a member of the Hague Apostille Convention, meaning Nigerian documents cannot simply be apostilled for use in Lebanon — they require full consular legalisation. Nigerian documents must first be authenticated by the relevant Nigerian authority, then presented to the consulate for Lebanese legalisation.

Common use cases: Nigerian university degrees for recognition in Lebanon, corporate documents, court judgments, professional certificates.
